Since 2021 I have been involved in sound art and exploring a different discipline and approach to creating. My work is made using everyday objects, synthesisers, geographically specific instruments and environmental sounds. Below are some examples of my recent work.
‘Lihvir’ (2022) Created as a part of a collaborative project to explore artificial language for the album ‘Neotinea’ released on German label Attenuation Circuit.
‘Night Shift’ (2021) Various recordings of sounds experienced whilst burning the midnight oil, including rain, cars, wild animals and birds. This was created for a collaborative online sound map for the KISMIF conference, looking at sounds expressing the concept of ‘home’.
‘Heavy Metal’ (2022) Created specifically for Lumbung Radio as part of Documenta 15. The track is more of a fusion musical piece with Indonesian gamelan instruments taking centre stage as I explore the concept of Lumbung (the festival theme this year) - an Indonesian word for communal rice barns.
‘The Sky Is Sacred’ (2022) A piece of hybrid music composed for German art collective Insight and their event ‘Nachtstücke’ at HDKK Stuttgart. This was performed as part of Niki Matita’s Gemini work which was inspired by a meteor shower occurring that evening (13/12/22) The curated works were all based around Gemini related themes such as dualism, twins, space constellations, mythology and more. My piece combined sounds from the European Space Agency, ambient drones and modern classical orchestral composition. The full Gemini work has been filmed and will be showing on screens in the foyer of HDKK for the duration of the Nachtstücke event.
